"Spirit Mode" engages the exact headspace its name implies: a pure rush of amorphous fractal liquid designed to dissolve the body and free the mind. Throughout, he imitates a tribal dance of impossible sounds, finding strange hallways to wander down with his ping-ponging marimbas and arpeggiating Nord keyboards. “Air” flits about like some rare mechanized bird powered by squishy bass tones and crystal voices; meanwhile, “The Gate” is a turbining whirlpool of heavenly laptop drones, gradually spinning faster and faster before reaching an absolutely head-splitting drum assault climax. Thinnes’ pathways are impossible to predict, but by the end of it all, a clear logic always emerges from the schizoid haze. As will all of Thinnes’ releases, "Spirit Mode" is equal halves meditation and freakout, a headbanging moshpit as envisioned from within a sensory deprivation tank. Thinnes’ punk take on electronic dance may pull from a myriad of different experimental acts, but his work always remains fiercely and psychotically itself.

All songs written and produced by Luke Thinnes in March of 2020.
